A bit about Habbo Hotel.
Habbo Hotel is kind of a combination of things. It is of course a chat room, but its also a game. You make a
character that is free and you can make a room that is free, but in order to add furniture to your room you need credits (visit
newb section). The concept was created as a small project by two Finnish men, Samp Karjalainen and Aapo Kyrölä. The two later
sold their project to the Finnish telecom giant Elisa Oyj.
The service was launched in Finland and was called Hotelli Kultakala (finnish for Hotel Goldfish) in August
2000. The campany decided soon after that the name needed to be more neutral so they choose the name from a team member submission
that happened to be Habbo.
The second "member" of the Habbo brand was launched in January of 2001 in the United Kingdom. To
this date the Habbo Hotel and its number of users has continued to grow, operating in 17 countries. The game is currently
one of the largest non-violent games on the internet!
